Beatriz Salvatierra
Born in Caracas. She studied Graphic Design there, but soon felt the need to look through other lenses: she moved to Boston to learn photography, video and documentary film, and later to London, where the London Film School trained her in camera, editing and directing. She edited alongside Venezuelan filmmaker Luis Armando Roche, directed reports for Bolívar Films, and took part in shoots and collectives across Europe, until in Barcelona she returned to design, collaborating for four years with Miquel Puig's studio. Back in Venezuela she recovered the brand that Carlos Cruz-Diez designed for the Instituto de Estudios Avanzados, and in 2015 founded Bstudio Design. Today, that same curiosity has led her to study Psychology at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, a new lens for continuing to look inward, joining science and art. She lives in Madrid, dividing her time between design and artistic creation.
Behind this path lies another: the mat woven from the threads of knowing herself as a woman, with all the creative capacity of her biological nature: motherhood, upbringing, letting go, her mother's death, and the lineage that precedes them: Beatriz already existed in her grandmother's womb. That truth keeps revealing itself to her, through dreams she learned to listen to and silences inhabited through meditation. She recognizes herself as a survivor of a landslide that taught her, forever, how small she is before the immensity of nature and the universe. And within that immensity she found the cicada, which sings to announce the weather, sheds its skin, buries itself, and returns transformed to continue its natural purpose. That is how she feels too: crossing thresholds, discovering herself, changing, as her inner weather reveals itself according to its own seasons. From there comes her need to express herself, an exploration that remains open between drawing, design and photography. In this exhibition, it is photography that speaks, building a gaze in transit: between the visible and the invisible, the scientific and the intuitive, matter and memory.
