Accessibility Policy
Our commitment to making The Art Room accessible to everyone
The Art Room is committed to making its website and digital content accessible and user-friendly for as many people as possible. We actively work to improve the accessibility and usability of our website and aim to ensure that our content can be accessed and understood by a broad and diverse audience.
Our Commitment
We strive to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, and we follow established best practices and recommendations, including guidance from WebAIM and related accessibility standards. Accessibility is an ongoing process. As our platform evolves — particularly with immersive and interactive content — we continue to evaluate and improve accessibility across the website.
What We've Implemented
The Art Room incorporates the following accessibility features across the website:
Keyboard navigation: All pages, exhibitions, artworks, and artist profiles can be browsed using keyboard only. Interactive controls such as menus, dropdowns, and collapsible sections respond to standard keyboard inputs (Tab, Enter, Space, Escape).
Skip navigation: A "Skip to main content" link is available on every page, allowing keyboard users to bypass repetitive navigation.
Focus indicators: All focusable elements display a visible outline when navigated via keyboard, ensuring users always know where they are on the page.
Screen reader support: The website uses semantic HTML (
main, nav, header, footer, section), ARIA attributes on interactive components, and visually hidden text where needed to provide context to assistive technologies.Alternative text: All meaningful images include descriptive alt text. Decorative images are marked appropriately so they are ignored by screen readers.
Reduced motion: Users who prefer reduced motion (via their operating system or browser settings) will experience the website with animations and transitions disabled.
Accessible forms: All form fields are associated with visible labels, and interactive controls use proper HTML elements to ensure compatibility with assistive technologies.
Structured content: Pages use a logical heading hierarchy and semantic markup to support screen readers and document navigation.
Language declaration: The website declares its language (
en) to assist screen readers with correct pronunciation.
3D and Virtual Exhibition Accessibility
The Art Room offers immersive 3D virtual exhibition experiences that rely on modern web technologies and hardware capabilities. At this time:
3D exhibitions are primarily designed for desktop and laptop devices.
Mobile devices are not currently supported for full 3D exhibition navigation.
Certain assistive technologies may have limited compatibility within 3D environments.
All exhibition information — including titles, artist names, artwork details, and descriptions — is accessible outside the 3D viewer through the exhibition and artwork pages, which are fully keyboard and screen reader accessible.
Third-Party Content
Some content on the website may be provided by third parties, including embedded media, tools, or external services. While The Art Room does not control third-party content, we strongly encourage all vendors and collaborators to provide content that is accessible and user-friendly. We continuously assess third-party integrations and consider accessibility when selecting partners and platforms.
